Proper Disposal of Prescription Medication is a Priority
Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District and Discount Drug Mart have teamed up throughout the year at multiple locations holding a Prescription Drug Take Back Day. This allows for the community to drop off any unused or expired medications that need to be properly disposed. All types of prescriptions are accepted and everything can be done anonymously.
Improperly disposing of medications and flushing them down the toilet can lead to a water quality issue. Wastewater treatment plants are not equipped to remove pharmaceuticals from the wastewater and these could affect the environment and endanger public health.
Discount Drug Mart hosts events throughout the year that allow for safe disposal and has resulted in a collection of hundreds of pounds of prescription medications. Throughout the 2019 Calendar year there was 7 collection dates at different locations. Over those 7 days, during the time of 10:00am – 2:00pm there was 268lbs. of prescription pills collected. That is 268lbs. not able to get into the hands of those that would abuse them, keeping our communities safe. Details can be foundhere
Discount Drug Mart Continues Fight Against Opioid Epidemic
Drug Deactivation Pouches are available FREE of charge to customers who have the need to safely dispose of expired medication or unused prescriptions. Deterra is a drug deactivation system that is available at our Pharmacies that comes at no cost to our customers. Partnering with the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board of Lorain County Ohio, Discount Drug Mart’s initiative has most recently expanded to cover the 10 store locations in Lorain County. Making Drug deactivation pouches now available throughout Summit, Tuscarawas and Lorain County totaling 17 locations.
