Discount Drug Mart Now Accepting FSA & HSA Cards

Medina, OH (May 6, 2008) – Discount Drug Mart, Inc. proudly announces that as of May 07, 2008 all their stores will be accepting Flexible Spending Account and Health Spending Account (FSA / HSA)  cards.  FSA and HSA are part of benefit plans sponsored by employers that allows their employees to voluntarily withhold pre-tax money from their paychecks to purchase approved health care items and/or services saving them potentially hundreds of dollars a year.

“Discount Drug Mart strives to continually bring value to our customers through such programs,” notes Tom McConnell, CFO.  “This program is a very important step to bringing more value to our customers and their shopping trip.  We now have the technology to accept the debit/credit cards, which will make it easier for our customers by alleviating the process of sending in receipts to their insurance carrier,” he added.

Today, it is estimated that there are 3.5 million FSA and HSA cards being used and is expected to grow to more than 12 million by 2010 equaling about $100 billion in qualified spending.  This program was created to ease the burden of the rising health care costs for Americans and is rapidly becoming more popular with employers who offer health care to their employees.  Discount Drug Mart is also doing their part to help their customers combat the increasing cost of health care by offering every day low prices not only national brand items, but on their own Discount Drug Mart health care brand items, which are accepted as eligible FSA and HSA items.  In addition, Discount Drug Mart also launched a company-wide program called Caregivers Marketplace – a free and confidential cash back program designed to help family caregivers save hundreds of dollars each year on products used daily in home care that are not typically covered by insurance or Medicare.
